About the Firm

A New York law office with a federal tax controversy practice. Attorney-directed, transcript-first, flat-fee.

Adam Sanders, Esq.

The Adam Sanders Law Office, PLLC is a New York law firm. Tax By TASLO is its federal tax controversy practice: representation of individuals and businesses in examinations, appeals, and collection matters before the Internal Revenue Service.

Adam Sanders, Esq.

Adam Sanders is the founding attorney of The Adam Sanders Law Office, PLLC, admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. He represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service in audits, collection matters, penalty disputes, and requests for Offers in Compromise, installment agreements, hardship status, and innocent spouse relief, and before the IRS Independent Office of Appeals.

The firm's approach to tax matters comes from its broader practice as a litigation and advocacy office: read the file before you speak, know the deadlines, know the rules the agency is bound by, and put the client's facts in front of the decision-maker in the form that decision-maker needs to see them. The IRS is a large agency with written procedures. Most of what goes wrong for taxpayers happens because nobody on their side knew the procedure.

How the firm works

Every matter begins with the transcripts

Before we give you an opinion, we obtain your IRS account and wage-and-income transcripts under a power of attorney and read them. The transcripts show what has been assessed, what has been paid, what penalties have been added, where the collection statute stands on each year, and what the IRS already knows about your income. A recommendation made without that information is a guess.

Attorney supervision on every matter

Every engagement is directed and supervised by Adam Sanders. Depending on the matter, the firm's staff assists with document assembly, financial statement preparation, and IRS correspondence under his direction. You will know who is working on your case and who is making the decisions.

Attorney-client privilege

Communications between a client and an attorney for the purpose of obtaining legal advice are privileged. A limited privilege exists for federally authorized tax practitioners under §7525, but it does not extend to criminal matters and does not apply in many of the situations where confidentiality matters most. When there is any possibility that an examination could develop into something more serious, the distinction between an attorney and a non-attorney representative is not a technicality.

Flat fees

For most matters we quote a flat fee before the engagement begins, based on the scope of work. You will know the cost at the outset. Where a matter's scope changes — for example, an examination that proceeds to Appeals or Tax Court — we discuss the additional work and its cost with you before undertaking it.

Honest assessments

Not every taxpayer qualifies for an Offer in Compromise, and not every penalty can be removed. If we do not believe a particular remedy is available on your facts, we will tell you, and we will tell you what is. We would rather lose an engagement than take a fee for a request we expect the IRS to deny.

Who we represent

Individuals, self-employed professionals, and small businesses — particularly those with unfiled returns, balances that have grown through penalties and interest, pending examinations, or active IRS collection. The firm is located in Cedarhurst, in Nassau County, and serves clients throughout Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and the New York metropolitan area. Because federal tax representation is a matter of federal law and practice before a federal agency, we also represent clients located outside New York.

Immigration practice

The Adam Sanders Law Office also maintains an immigration law practice, which has its own website at taslopllc.com. Clients with both immigration and tax matters — a common combination, since tax compliance is examined in many immigration applications — benefit from having both handled by one office.

The IRS has a process. So do we.

Every matter begins with a no-charge review of your notices and transcripts. You will leave that conversation knowing where you stand and what we recommend — whether or not you retain us.
